# Connect using RPC

Chiliz is available through a Mainnet for your production projects, and has a Testnet for testing purposes. The Chiliz Testnet is called Spicy Testnet.

These public RPC endpoints are free and shared, so they come with rate limits. The exact limit depends on the provider and whether you have registered an account with them: the public endpoints (no account needed) are fine for development and testing, while production traffic is better served by registering with a provider for higher limits, or by [running your own node](/develop/basics/connect-to-chiliz-chain/run-a-chiliz-chain-node.md).

If you do hit a limit, add a short delay between requests (ranging from 1 second to 1 minute depending on your needs), and use exponential backoff on errors rather than retrying immediately.

**About the Scoville Testnet**

In May 2023, we replaced Scoville Testnet with Spicy Testnet.

All developers who have deployed or plan to deploy on Scoville Testnet must deploy their tests on Spicy Testnet instead as it will be kept up-to-date to directly reflect the new Chiliz Chain.
